- If you are attempting to SCAN while the printer is performing another operation (for example, printing), please wait for that operation to finish before attempting to SCAN.
- If you are attempting to SCAN while a support code is displayed by the printer, you must address and resolve that support code before you can continue to SCAN. For example, a 1688 support code signifies that the printer has detected that one or more of your ink cartridges is empty. You must follow the instructions to resolve the 1688 support code to continue to SCAN.
- Please follow the instructions on the page entitled An Error Occurs to address and resolve the particular support code displayed by the printer.

Follow the procedure below to check if WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) is running or in started state.
Windows 8.1/Windows 8:
Click the Settings charm > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools, then double-click Services.
Windows 7:
From the Start menu, click Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools, then double-click Services.
Windows Vista:
From the Start menu, click Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Administrative Tools, then double-click Services.
Windows XP:
From the Start menu, click Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools, then double-click Services.
- There may be interference with other drivers; delete unnecessary drivers.
- Your application may not properly comply with TWAIN. Scan using another application.
